1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? smoked with julia! celebrated one-year anniversary with noah. (on january 4 2007 celebrated two-year anniversary with noah..!) ADOPTED THE CUTEST, SMARTEST, PRETTIEST, NICEST KITTY IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD NAMED WINONA. talked to leon kass.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year? of course not. i kept biting my nails all throughout the year, and i will continue to do so. i have decided to accept my nailbiting rather than seek to exorcise it.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? i don't think so.

4. Did anyone close to you die? no.

5. What countries did you visit? err, korea and the usa.

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? a regular sleep pattern

7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? january 4th, always, september 15, and january 14.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? trying. (venus?)

9. What was your biggest failure? time management, or the lackthereof

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? mild concussion from getting hit by a car while riding my bike

11. What was the best thing you bought? ...so many things.... (macbook sewing machine heated blanket technically cat printer camera non-driver's id new cellphone headset for said cellphone?)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? noah, my mom, my dad, my little cousins, brian, valia, julia, embee, jack, hunter, yuna somewhat, mine somewhat, and most importantly winona.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? yuna's ex and some people in my building

14. Where did most of your money go? food and indulgences (lately, magazines and fashion books)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? fundamentals. fashion. family. (cat.)

16. What song will always remind you of 2006? ian dury's "sex & drugs & rock & roll" lou reed's "street hassle medley" and interpol's "specialist"

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? i can't be certain, but i think i'm happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? probably thinner.
iii. richer or poorer? i honestly don't know.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of? sleep and go to class and eat

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? watch movies and tv

20. How will you be spending Christmas? it's already gone!

22. Did you fall in love in 2006? continued to be in love?

23. How many one-night stands? none.

24. What was your favorite TV program? the west wing.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? yes....

26. What was the best book you read? maybe some poetry books and maybe st. augustine's confessions and maybe also the collected interviews and the diary of andy warhol

27. What was your greatest musical discovery? john cale.

28. What did you want and get? some semblance of sanity, more acceptance

29. What did you want and not get? discipline, although i must've not really wanted it seeing as how i never worked toward it...

30. What was your favorite film of this year? i saw too many movies to remember, honestly. i can tell you my LEAST favorite film of the year, though: the pursuit of happyness. fucking hell.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? took birthday shots, slept, went to french class, went to target to buy sewing machine, read in style in bed, ran to catch the metra in my four-inch heels, went to dinner at le nomades, drank two glasses of wine and got drunk, watched before sunrise, fell asleep.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? ability to sleep when i want, not committing to venus

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006? aimed to make me happy

34. What kept you sane? noah and winona and my mom and some other stuff i care about like poetry and fashion and my fundamentals question and art

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? bradley whitford/lindsay lohan

36. What political issue stirred you the most? i don't know.

37. Who did you miss? people.

38. Who was the best new person you met? winona, although she's a cat

[2005, since i never posted it here for some reason]
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
gained weight and was okay with it for a while. passed up parties and various offers for illegitimate substances and related activities to sit at home. (in other words: i thought i was middle-aged.)

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
last year's new year's resolutions: something about taking better care of my body and being nicer to people and stopping nailbiting and not turning into angry lesbian despite being in chick band and not talking to noah so much. i did not stop biting my nails and i did not take better care of my body and i did not stop talking to noah so much and i was very mean to some people. but i did not turn into an angry lesbian.
new year's resolutions: stop biting nails. (this is a hopeless battle. at least i quit smoking. i am not even going to attempt to make more than one resolution.)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
i don't think so. i thought my aunt was pregnant but i don't remember hearing about the birth. i also don't recall hearing about a miscarriage or an abortion, though, so she must have given birth. so i guess, kind of. (it would help if i knew which aunt was pregnant. that's what my thing for last year said. "no, but my aunt is pregnant, so next year i'll be able to write yes." who was pregnant??)

4. Did anyone close to you die?
....maybe?

5. What countries did you visit?
i was in new hampshire. then i was in korea. and now i am in chicago. those are not countries.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
my very own apartment. a cat and a chihuahua. more energy and excitedness. less apathy and cynicism.

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
january fourth. june ninth through twelfth. thanksgiving day.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
i don't think i achieved much.

9. What was your biggest failure?
trying not to care so damn much. being afraid to look foolish.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
i need drugs for anxiety.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
...i bought so many things. my hair was probably the best thing. and the jeans i live in.

morante, pretty much.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
mine and everyone else's.

14. Where did most of your money go?
clothes. shoes. clothes. shoes. food. in 2006 i will spend less money on food and more money on clothes and shoes. and books.

noah. colleges. clothes. shoes. poets, again. some music and film.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
sex is boring. vague space. i want her she wants me.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? i think i was temporarily fat last year around this time because of college apps. i think the end of the year is always when i get fat. then i tend to thin out during the year. so: i don't know.
iii. richer or poorer? i don't even know anymore.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
read books and listen to music

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
eat. sit around being depressed.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
with my family, celebrating christmas and my maternal grandmother's birthday, trying to convince my uncle that i really do need more medicine.

i think the 'somewhere in between' from last year became 'yes' this year.

curb! curb! curb! arrested development

yes.

um, various things by faulkner.

that one song by ballboy. umm. more jazz.

a (relatively) long-standing and stable relationship. noah.

oh god don't even start.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
the only films i remember is the 40 year old virgin and harry potter. i don't think i liked either one particularly.

i am going to ignore this question.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
liking more people at chicago.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
bundled up-->half naked-->ridiculous-->stopped caring-->started having enough energy to care again just recently.

my mom. mr weber. mr ibbotson and mr ramsey. frank ohara. johanna, noah. brian. brian. brian. yuna.

malkmus. no one else, really.

um.

i missed noah, and then i didn't have to miss noah anymore, but then i missed brian and rams and ibbs and delaney and morante and johanna and weber and pretty much fucking everyone else that matters. my parents. my grandmother, strangely enough.

i met new people?

i'm twenty, not middle-aged.
